FLORIDA TO NOVA SCOTIA, BACK ROADS STYLE

Discovering America on the back roads with Back Roads Richard (BRR)

See page 5 for the best motorcycle route directions to Florida from the East Coast of Canada.

A local Red Neck drives his HIGH STEPPIN pickup past the local one man car wash – Darien Georgia.

Darien Georgia is a town we stayed overnight at on the way to Florida and also on the way home from Florida. It’s not the richest town in Georgia but the people are friendly, the reasonably priced Comfort Inn is right off the highway and they have a great little Diner called B&J’s where you get all you can eat for $10. I call that a good town to call home, for the night.

B&J’s Steak and Seafood Diner is the place you want to park your butt. We had all you can eat catfish and chicken with veggies, fries and desert for $10.

Good food, good prices and good people. Now ya gotta admit, that’s a deal.

At a comfort stop in Georgia State I met and talked with Parker who was driving home to Maryland after visiting his parents in Savannah Georgia.

His motorcycle is a Yamaha 650 V-Star.

We experienced spring in Florida in March, now it was late April and we were experiencing spring again in Georgia.

It was nice to see the spring season in all the different States we passed through on the way home.

The different states in the USA have comfort stops where you can stop to rest, go to the bathroom, have a picnic or you can go for a walk to stretch your legs.

These places are clean, safe and the people you meet there will usually talk with you, if you are the friendly type.

In Pennsylvania you can stop at Thunder Swamp and stretch your legs.

Kingston New York was once the State Capital.

An interesting spot to spend some time is the Hudson River Maritime Museum.

Clearwater is a 106-foot wooden sailing sloop designed after the famous Hudson River sloops of 19th century.

Clearwater was founded in 1969 by music legend and environmental activist Pete Seeger. The organization began with the launch of sloop Clearwater—a majestic replica of the sloops that sailed the Hudson in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Clearwater has become America’s Environmental Flagship, and was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 for its role in the environmental movement.

The Engine Number 8 Fire Station is still in use.
